Homeopathic treatment has been used for over 200 years. Millions use it worldwide and 12% of the British population have said they use it and rely on its health benefits. It is non-toxic and non addictive and can be used by all age groups and also during pregnancy. It can work alongside conventional medicine for both emergency (acute) conditions and long term (chronic) problems.
Conventional medicine concentrates on individual parts of the body that are not working properly. Homeopathy is a complete system of health that helps with mental, emotional and physical illness. It looks at the whole person, their physical issues, emotional states, mental symptoms and family history of disease. It draws all these factors together to tackle the cause and alleviation of any imbalance in the body systems.
Homeopathic remedies works on the principle of ‘like cures like’. This states that a substance which causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in the sick when given as a homeopathically prepared remedy. For example a common remedy for sleeping difficulties is coffea – a remedy made from coffee. The remedies are chosen by taking into account the patient’s physical, emotional and mental symptoms, treating the whole person.
Homeopathic remedies are prepared in a very particular way. This involves diluting the substance concerned, then shaking vigorously with impact. This sequence of actions is known as succussion. A substance can be diluted and succussed many times, and this process is called potentisation. Homeopathic remedies do not contain material quantities of the plant, metals and other substances from which they are derived. They are not tested on animals and are suitable for vegetarians.
